3rd Grade Reading, Creek Valley Elementary
As part of the project, Rotarians read the book Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure to local students and discuss ethics with them. Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure is the story of a young entrepreneur who starts an apple dumpling business. With the guidance of a mysterious voice conveying the Four-Way Test, he turns his venture into a wonderful success and makes friends along the way.
The book was jointly published by the Rotary Club of Fairborn, Ohio, and TokoBooks and is now the center of a literacy project for Rotary clubs across the country.
Rotarian volunteers are needed to read the book to classes and distribute copies of the book and apples to students. The readings will be at Countryside Elementary School, 5701 Benton Ave., 12:45-1:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 11; Cornelia Elementary School, 7000 Cornelia Drive, 12:30-1 p.m. Friday, May 13; and Creek Valley Elementary School, 6401 Gleason Road, 1:30-2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. Six to eight volunteers are needed to read to three or four classrooms each day. (One volunteer will read and the other will hand out copies of the book and help answer questions.) Rotarians are encouraged to sign up for more than one day if their schedules allow.
