With a passion for maximizing the public benefits of university research, Xu utilizes his versatile skillsets in science, business, and patenting to formulate and execute commercial strategies to move early-stage technologies from the bench to the marketplace. Prior to joining Technology Commercialization at the University of Minnesota, Xu worked in product development in the biomedical industry at Abbott Laboratories. Xu has seven years of research experience in a variety of disciplines including biosensors, diagnostics, materials, and renewable energy.

Xu is very involved in the STEM community in the Twin Cities Metro. Xu serves on the board for the Minnesota Academy of Science, which focuses on promoting STEM education for K12 students and hosting the Minnesota Science Fair. Xu has also been volunteering in Chemistry in Library at American Chemical Society, demonstrating science experiments to kids in different local libraries.

Xu is a registered U.S. patent agent and holds a Ph.D. in chemistry and an M.B.A, both from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and a B.S. in chemistry from Beijing Normal University.
