One of the state’s largest service organizations will have a significant presence at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair Saturday, Aug. 24.
More than 300 Rotarians from Rotary International District 5950 will be present for the Great Minnesota Get Together on its opening weekend. Working in four shifts throughout the day, Rotarians will complete a service project, a waste audit conducted as a collaboration with the Office of Enterprise Sustainability at the Minnesota Department of Administration, the Minnesota Technical Assistance Program and the Minnesota State Fair Operations staff. Rotarians will help collect data to identify and provide recommendations to reduce trash, increase recycling, improve organics collection, avoid unnecessary waste, and reuse or repurpose waste items.
Rotary will also have a unit in the 2 p.m. parade. The float will feature 75 Rotarians and North Star youth exchange students. Participating Rotarians will have a place of respite, the Rotary Oasis at Horton Pavilion, to gather to connect with one another at the fair Aug. 24. Bloodworth and her team have organized a Rotary Treasure Hunt for those in attendance to discover hidden gems of the fair, answer fun trivia about Rotary’s impact areas and earn their own blue ribbons.
