The foundation of the Rotary Club of Edina recently awarded a grant of $3,000 to Breanna’s Gift.
Breanna’s Gift is an arts program that brings the joy of dance, visual arts, music and performing arts to children facing cancer and other serious illnesses. In-person classes are offered at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul and Children’s Minnesota in Minneapolis. Art Takeout is used at many children’s hospitals and healthcare facilities, including Mayo Eugenio Litta Children’s Hospital in Rochester and Crescent Cove children’s hospice in Brooklyn Park.
With the grant from the Rotary Club of Edina, Breanna’s Gift will create more Art Takeout kits. Art Takeout is a series of art projects in a box designed for children who are not able to leave their hospital rooms to join group classes.
“Breanna’s Gift was founded to remember the spirit of a little girl and her many loves, one of which was dance,” said Executive Director Heather Christopherson. “Our mission is bringing smiles to the faces of children with cancer and other serious illnesses through the magic of the arts. Because of donors like [the Rotary Club of Edina], we are able to continue our important programming.”
