After a solid month of planning, recruiting, and preparing Camp Enterprise 2019 wrapped up its annual three-day business camp on Saturday, Nov. 10. In its 39th year, Camp Enterprise is sponsored by the Edina and Edina Morningside rotary clubs. 104 students from Minnesota and western Wisconsin met at the YMCA Camp Iduhapi in Loretto to develop entrepreneuial skills and pitch their created plan to "Shark Tank" type venture capitalists. That’s part of the goal behind Camp Enterprise to teach students entrepreneurial skills, learn about leadership and business ethics.
Roughly 80 Rotarians from around the state volunteer their time and business leaders in the community serve as speakers and mentors. There is no cost for the student to attend camp with the $375 fee being paid by nearly 60 different area Rotary clubs. At the end of camp, five students each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Rotaract Club of Edina would love our help in securing speakers for their upcoming year of meetings. They are looking for members who feel compelled to share their life experiences, leadership principles, or other concepts with them.
At a recent board meeting, it was decided to focus their club efforts this year on personal and professional development. They are currently planning to engage people to help guide them in these areas. A Google Form, “Call for Proposals”, has been created to help start the speaking engagement process. Here’s the link to the Form: https://forms.gle/qLt7nG9ahnhtB5VZA
Rotaract clubs consist of young professionals between the ages of 18 and 30 to take action in their communities, develop their leadership and professional skills, and have fun. There is only one Rotaract Club in District 5950. The Rotary Club of Edina and the Edina Morningside Rotary Club support The Rotaract Club of Edina and their members will manage its club independently. As Rotaract members connect with other young leaders, they can take advantage of all Rotary has to offer, including scholarships and peace fellowships, RYLA events, and friendship exchanges or vocational training teams. There is no charge to attend meetings.
"Thanks for all your support!", Mark Gasner, Rotaract Club of Edina President 2019-2020
Tuesday, Nov. 5 nine Edina rotarians served dinner at Cornerstone. Those that helped were Mike Sitek, Nick VanBeek, Joe Arends, Bonnie Rolstad, Mike Kallas, Nate Wenner, Renee Harberts, Kelley Burnett and Axel Steuer. Cornerstone is an advocacy group dedicated to providing services to victims of domestic violence in South Hennepin county. Cornerstone’s ultimate goal is to reduce the prevalence of domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking and general crime. Safe and stable futures are possible when we coordinate an effective crisis response, implement trauma-informed support services, mitigate the impact of violence on children and youth, and confront the roots of violence.
Due to some technical difficulties there are no words to note the absolutely fantastic meeting on November 7th. So, as they say -- a picture is worth a thousand of them!
Our speaker was our very own, Heather Edelson, MN State Representative.
She is standing with Wade Thommen, Social/Vocational Committee.
