Race & Equity Committee to Lead Discussion of White Fragility
Several organizations and groups across the country are reading White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism. The New York Times best-selling book explores the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality.
Showing a commitment to learning more about race and equity, several Rotary clubs in Minnesota, including those in Excelsior and St. James, have offered a “book club” of sorts to their members to read the book and talk about it as a small group. The Rotary Club of Edina’s Race & Equity Committee is now working to plan such an activity for members of the Rotary Club of Edina. In February, participating Rotarians will begin meeting electronically every-other week to discuss a few chapters of the book. It is exciting to announce 24 members of our club have ordered or own a copy of the book and may be participating in the discussion. We are looking forward to sharing fellowship with Rotary clubs outside the metro area and learning about the challenges they encounter.

Holiday Giving  Program - An Amazing Success
The Rotary Club of Edina has once again collected holiday gifts for families and youth. More than ever, this year there was a need for help and support. Rotarian Jean Morrison organized the Holiday Giving Program which donated to Cornerstone and 66 West again this year. Items wished for and delivered were:
Cornerstone: Gifts for families as they are hunkered down this winter – puzzles, adult and children’s coloring books, small toys, games. They are also in need of plastic snow mittens for kids, coats, and boots for adults and kids and women’s pajamas.
66 West: Gift cards from Target, Cub Foods, Marshalls and WalMart.

Rotarians Join Paul Harris Society
Six members of the Rotary Club of Edina recently joined the Paul Harris Society.
The Paul Harris Society recognizes donors who notify The Rotary Foundation of their intention to contribute $1,000 or more every year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund or approved global grants. Globally, more than 20,000 people are members of the society, which was established in 2013. These dedicated donors share a desire to give substantially and empower Rotary clubs to change lives in their community and around the world.

In Review - January 14, 2021 ZOOM Meeting
Due technical difficulty, the January 14th video was delayed. A link this meeting will be available at a later date. Check website for updates.  Back to the ZOOM only platforms and the continued excellent editing talents of C-Vision Productions (Chris Laskowski) it has been decided to make better use of the taped and edited meetings that are posted to You Tube and use them as our new "In Review" format. This will eliminate the duty of "The Barker" note taker/writer and we will, for the time being, no longer publish written reviews. In-person meeting photos will resume when we can meet again. Keep in mind watching the You Tube video counts as a make-up. Let Becci know what meeting dates you watched and she will mark you as attended.
We will post the link to the last meeting video taped (see above) and photos from the meeting.
January 14, 2021, Speaker: Louis King, Summit Academy
