May 16 Speakers: Milburn, and Slama, Edina Police and Fire Chiefs
Todd Milburn, was appointed as chief of the Edina Police Department in 2021. Milburn, who began his career as a community service officer in 1992, has held various roles including patrol officer, SWAT officer, and public information officer. He aims to advance Edina's Police Department through contemporary policing practices and team collaboration.
Andrew Slama, with 15+ years of fire service experience, became Edina's fire chief in 2021. Slama continues the excellent public safety legacy of Edina Fire's Department and credited a colleague for introducing him to firefighting during his carpentry days. His journey included roles in various fire departments before returning to Edina as paramedic. The City Council and Mayor welcomed him back, commending his fit for the community's needs, while Slama emphasized the department's commitment to residents' safety.
Spring Fireside Chats - LAST CHANCE, May 22
The Rotary Club of Edina Spring Fireside Chat schedule will begin Tuesday, May 14.  Club member hosted these small and casual social gatherings give experienced and freshman Rotarians the opportunity to get to know each other and learn about Rotary. Usually held in the host member's home as a come and go timed gathering, it's a nice way to conversationally and personally connect with your fellow Rotary friends. You're invited to attend all the scheduled chats or pick one that works best with your schedule. To allow the host to prepare, please register for each gathering you plan to attend. Please let Kayla Beehler know if you any questions or would like to be added to the Spring or Fall Fireside host schedule.

May 15 -Need TWO People For VEAP Pack 
Who is going to join Bob, Alison and Susan? NEED TWO PEOPLE Sign up today to help Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) serve the hungry in our community! Volunteers welcome participants to the VEAP pantry, explain the process and respond to participant questions, keep the shopping area clean and tidy, sort through food donations, stock shelves, load groceries into vehicles and overall help VEAP promote a positive shopping experience for participants. VEAP staff explain the process before every volunteer shift in the pantry. You can sign up HERE

May 17 - Andy & Elmer Apple Dumpling Reading
The Rotary Club of Edina’s Youth Service Committee seeks volunteers for its third-grade literacy project. Register HERE
As part of the project, Rotarians read the book Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure to local students and discuss ethics with them. Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure is the story of a young entrepreneur who starts an apple dumpling business. With the guidance of a mysterious voice conveying the Four-Way Test, he turns his venture into a wonderful success and makes friends along the way.
The book was jointly published by the Rotary Club of Fairborn, Ohio, and TokoBooks and is now the center of a literacy project for Rotary clubs across the country.
Rotarian volunteers are needed to read the book to classes and distribute copies of the book to students. The reading will be at Highlands Elementary School, 5505 Doncaster Way. Eght volunteers are needed to read to four classrooms. (One volunteer will read and the other will hand out copies of the book and help answer questions.)

REGISTER EXTENDED TO  MAY 22 The picnic will take the place of our May 30 noon Rotary meeting. This is a catered event and registration WILL CLOSE Wednesday, May 22, 2024. There is no additional cost to members (this event is included with quarterly meeting fees). Attending senior active, family members and guests cost $20 per person. Children 6 to 16 are $12 per child. Children 5 and under are free. Guest fees will be charged to the member's July 2024 invoice. REGISTER you and your guests HERE

FREE Shred Event, June 1
On Saturday, June 1, 2024, 9 am to Noon, fellow Rotarian John Mazzara is sponsoring a  FREE Shed Event in the parking lot of Re/Max at 7700 France Ave S.  Bring your paper documents only for disposal. Please feel free to invite a friend, a large truck has been ordered. Go to the South side of the Building and look for the inflatable Re/Max Balloon and ShredIt truck. Let John know you're coming at 
Welcome New Members, Cathy and Nick
The Rotary Club of Edina extends a warm welcome to two new members who were inducted into the club on May 2, 2024. Both are in non-profit leadership and work for the Southdale YMCA.  Cathy also be gave her classification talk. 
Cathy Quinlivan, Southdale YMCA,  Classification: Non-Profit Leadership, Sponsor: Erica Allenburg. Cathy has been part of Rotary since 2009 and served with the West St. Paul, Hudson and St. Paul Sunrise clubs. She enjoys road biking, the outdoors, social justice and DEI initiatives, the theater and cultural arts.
Nick Hanks, Southdale YMCA, Classification: Non-Profit Leadership Sponsor: Erica Allenburg. Nick has served the YMCA and dedicated to youth development for 16 years. He enjoys sports, being outdoors hiking, camping and snowshoeing and travel. You may find him at the Linden Hills farmers market serving up his yummy breakfast sandwiches.
