Lieutenant Brian Tholen started his career in Law Enforcement 24 years ago with the Edina Police Department. He was assigned to the patrol division for 10 years where he became a field training officer, a defensive tactics instructor and was a member of the Southwest Metro SWAT Team Consortium. He has been instructing officers, paramedics and firefighters throughout the metro in active shooter response protocol for the past 12 years. During these trainings, he realized the critical need to teach businesses, employees, employers and the general public on how to help prevent and respond to an active shooter. He emphasizes the importance of Awareness, Prevention and ultimately, how to Survive.

Join us for the Edina Rotary Happy Hour/Vocational Development Group. The next gathering will be Wednesday, September 2nd, from 6:00 to 7 p.m. via ZOOM. The event will feature a short social period, with a "formal" program beginning at 6 p.m. Each person will have a brief opportunity to introduce themselves and make new connections. A featured presenter will have 15 minutes to share information that is relevant to his or her profession followed by a short Q&A period. The foundation of the Rotary Club of Edina recently awarded a grantof $2,800 to Open Arms of Minnesota.
Founded in 1986, Open Arms of Minnesota is a nonprofit that cooks and delivers free, nutritious meals topeople with life-threatening illnesses in the Twin Cities. With the help of more than 7,500 volunteers, Open Arms plans to cook and deliver more than 600,000 meals this year. The grant will be used to purchased seven iPads for delivery drivers.
Money for grants awarded by the Edina Rotary Foundation is raised at an annual fall fundraiser and gala and donations made throughout the year.

The foundation of the Rotary Club of Edina recently awarded a grant of $2,000 to Fishing For Life.
Fishing For Life is a non-profit organization with eight programs to reach at-risk youth, disadvantaged families and veterans in the Minneapolis area. The organization provides fishing supplies, education and mentoring to these underserved populations through the more than 75 events it hosts each year. The grant from the Rotary Club of Edina will be used to purchase 100 tackle boxes to be filled with bait and other equipment.

Our club has opened its 2020-2021 leadership series to the public and we invite you and your business associates to join us in this very "top of mind" learning opportunity. Over the course of 12 free sessions, the series will cover leadership skill development, goal setting and career planning, problem solving and networking. Hosted by Robb Breding, the leadership series will be offered 6 to 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month and delivered by seasoned professionals in an environment that will foster relationship and leadership development. The series kicks off 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, with a presentation on teamwork by Sam Thompson on six simple ways teammates can go from good to great and how to effectively lead a team.

The July 23rd meeting was brought to order by President Sam Thompson. He welcomed the 34 people in attendance the ECC and the 28 registered members on ZOOM. He gave an overview of our club’s support of the Edina COVID Relief Fund who help to fill immediate needs during the pandemic. He brought to our attention our District Governor Tom Gump’s feature article in the Rotary International magazine on how he’s been involved in starting four new clubs within our district.
