Jim Holden, author and former tennis coach, will be the program speaker at the Rotary Club of Edina's final meeting of 2014 on Dec. 12. Holden will speak about "A History of Minnesota (and Edina) Boys' High School Tennis."

A baseball and basketball player in high school and college, Holden was an adult convert to tennis. He became a tennis coach before he knew much about the game. Holden accepted the challenge and coached the Northfield High School boys' tennis team for 17 years, leading them to five state tournament appearances. During those years, his team had several unsuccessful encounters with Edina teams coached by John Matlon and Les Szendrey. Holden is author of the book "Tennis in the Northland: A History of Boys' High School Tennis in Minnesota (1929–2003)."
