The Rotary Club of Edina invites you to join us for the meeting on March 20, where the program speaker will be Bruce Richardson of PolyMet Mining. He is the vice president of corporate communications and external affairs at PolyMet, and he will be speaking on "Copper, Nickel, and Precious Metals in the U.S."

Richardson joined PolyMet in 2013 to lead the company’s internal and external communications efforts, as well as to guide its community outreach and partnership initiatives. He is also a member of the senior executive leadership team, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the company. A 30-year veteran of corporate communications in the utility, retail and mining industries, Richardson has worked with numerous permitting and development teams, most recently for Rio Tinto’s Resolution Copper project and previously for Phelps Dodge Mining Co.’s Safford Project in Arizona. He started his career with Arizona Public Service Co., the state’s largest electric utility, leaving after 12 years to manage communications for Phelps Dodge Mining Co.’s North American copper and molybdenum operations. He served a brief stint as director of the Office of Information and Public Affairs for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in Bethesda, Md., and six years as director of corporate communications for PetSmart, North America’s largest pet retailer.

He earned his bachelor of science in mass communications from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

He is now with PolyMet Mining, a mine development company located on the Mesabi Iron Range in Northeastern Minnesota. PolyMet plans to bring a new copper, nickel and precious metal industry to the state of Minnesota. Polymet has been working with federal and state regulators to ensure the project meets all standards. The environmental impact statement will be made public early this December for review by the public which marks a large milestone for the company.

Jenny Knudson of PolyMet will also be at the meeting to answer questions after the program.

The meeting begins at 12:15 p.m. at the Edina Country Club.
