Rotary District 5950 Governor Jim Nelson will be the program speaker at the Thursday, Sept. 4, Rotary Club of Edina meeting. Nelson will be governor from July 2014 to June 2015. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis City of Lakes, and an Edina resident. He will speak about the District's goals for the Rotary year.

The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Rotary District 5950 Governor Jim Nelson as program speaker Thursday, Sept. 4. He will speak about the District's goals for the Rotary year.

Nelson is a member of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis City of Lakes and is District Governor for the 2014-2015 Rotary year. He is a second-generation Rotarian, born and raised in Breckenridge, Minnesota. He and his wife, Ellen, and daughter, Julia, live in Edina. Nelson also has two older children, Katherine (Ryan) and Carl (Marissa), and five grandchildren (Oliver, Harold, Jax, Peter and Sarah). 

Nelson is a lawyer with the Minneapolis-St. Paul firm of Briggs and Morgan. He is certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a Real Property Law Specialist, and concentrates his practice on commercial real estate transactions. He has practiced law for 42 years.

He joined City of Lakes in 1999, has been active in all of the areas of service with the club, and served as club president in 2009-2010 when the club celebrated its 25th anniversary. Jim’s district level service has included past Area 10 (Minneapolis) assistant governor and District foundation board member, and current member of the District and North Star Youth Exchange Foundation corporate boards.
