Election season is underway for many communities across Minnesota and the Twin Cities. While there won’t be any national or state races on the November ballot, voters will be making important local decisions about who will serve on school boards and city councils, among other issues.

In Edina, residents will elect school board members, and will also decide whether to approve a local option sales tax referendum.

The City is asking residents if the existing half-percent sales tax can be used to fund an expansion of Braemar Arena. Approval would not increase the amount of the sales tax or extend the maximum collection period of 19 years.

Attend this special Vocational Meeting of the Rotary Club of Edina to learn about the expansion plans and this funding mechanism. Meet at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525 Braemar Blvd., 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, for boxed lunches and a presentation. Then, the group will walk (or drive) across the street to Braemar Arena, 7501 Ikola Way, for a tour of the historic facility and a question-and-answer session with Parks & Recreation Director Perry Vetter. Registration is required and limited to 40 Rotarians.
