So what does this blanket have to do with Edina Rotary?

Our own Paul Mooty, part owner of the Faribault Woolen Mills and longtime Edina Rotarian, was part of the successful bid to bring the 2018 Super Bowl to Minnesota. Blankets from Faribault Woolen Mills were part of the package presented to football team owners as the delegation from Minnesota tried to woo them to pick Minnesota as the location for the 2018 Super Bowl.

Think Minnesota's too cold to host the Super Bowl? That's what the blanket is for.

Each prospective Super Bowl host was allowed to include one gift valued at $100 or less in the bid package it sent to NFL owners, and Minnesota's bid committee sent throw blankets from Faribault Woolen Mills.

Each of the 32 blankets was embroidered with the owner's team name in its team colors, and with the words "Minnesota Super Bowl LII." They're made from 100 percent Merino wool.

"We are honored that the Minnesota Super Bowl Bid Committee chose a Faribault Woolen Mill throw to represent our state in the package delivered to team owners as part of their winning bid for the 2018 Super Bowl," said Bruce Bildsten, chief marketing officer of Faribault Woolen Mill, in a statement. "What better symbol of our state’s heritage, authenticity and enthusiastic embrace of the winter season?"

The 147-year-old company makes wool blankets, throws, scarves and various other accessories. It is based in Faribault.
