Edina, Minn., July 25, 2011 – The Rotary Club of Edina ranked first in District 5950 in giving to The Rotary Foundation during its 2010-2011 fiscal year.


 
 Last year, the Rotary Club of Edina contributed $82,154 to The Rotary Foundation, ranking first among the 60 Rotary Clubs located in District 5950, comprising Central and Southwestern Minnesota. District 5950 is one of 529 Districts in 166 countries throughout the world and totaling 1,200,000 Rotarians in more than 31,000 local Rotary Clubs. “Contributions to The Rotary Foundation make a dramatic difference in the lives of people domestically and around the globe,” said Jody Kern, The Rotary Foundation Director for the Rotary Club of Edina. With contributions made by Club members and matching funds received from Rotary International District 5950 and Rotary International, over the past year the Club was able to support Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio worldwide; support the Safewater Plus project, providing safe drinking water to citizens of undeveloped countries; assist an asthma clinic serving young children in St. Vincent, West Indies; host an incoming Group Study Exchange team from Malawi and Rotary Youth Exchange student from Belgium; send an outgoing Group Study Exchange team to Brazil, and send an Ambassadorial Scholar to England.
