Edina, Minn., May 7, 2012 – The Rotary Club of Edina was recently recognized by City of Edina Mayor James Hovland and the Southdale YMCA for its contributions to the local community.

Mayor Hovland recognized Rotary’s STRIVE program with the Mayor’s Connecting With Kids Commendation at Edina’s Volunteer Recognition Reception April 23 at Braemar Clubhouse. The award is given annually to an individual or organization making a positive impact in the lives of Edina youth. STRIVE is a program that matches students ready to get serious about their education and to improve their post-secondary options with volunteer mentors from the Rotary Club of Edina and Edina Morningside Rotary.

In addition, the Southdale Y recognized the Rotary Club of Edina’s support of the “Y Rox!” program in the Spring 2012 issue of “The Red Triangle,” a newsletter for donors and friends of the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities. “Y Rox” is an afterschool partnership between Cornelia Elementary School, the Southdale Y, and the Rotary Club of Edina. Edina Rotary members purchased a mini-bus to transport students to the Y for the afterschool program, donated high-tech play equipment, and, most important, provide weekly volunteers who interact with the kids and become positive role models.

The Rotary Club of Edina meets Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. at the Edina Country Club, 5100 Wooddale Ave. For more information about the Rotary Club of Edina, visit www.EdinaRotary.org. For membership information, contact Membership Director Leslie Kreofsky, 952-929-2569 or leslie@kreofsky.com.
