Periodically we feature a new member of the Rotary Club of Edina on our website. This week we meet:

Name: Amir Arnold Gharbi

Classification: Public Service

What was your first job?: Growing up, my Mom and I provided respite care for developmentally disabled children for ten years. When I turned 18 in high school I became certified in my own right to work for Carver County as a respite care provider.

Who was your first role model and why?: My mother, Jane Gharbi. She's a legend of a worker, a saint of a giver, and a rock of integrity.

Why did you want to join Rotary?: Nearly twenty years ago I was nominated to attend RYLA, Rotary's leadership development program for local students. I learned a great deal about problem solving, communicating, and being an engaged citizen in my community. As an Eagle Scout I was struck by Rotary's Four-Way Test of the things we think, say, or do (Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?) and Rotary's emphasis on public service. Rotary is actually the Boy Scouts for adults. I wanted to join Rotary because I am serious about serving my community.

What do you like best about being part of the Rotary Club of Edina?: Engaging with leaders from across our community who are both serious about service and lighthearted about life.

What one piece of advice do you offer other business leaders?: Listen early and listen often.

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Edina, Amir!
