Periodically we feature a new member of the Rotary Club of Edina on our website. This week we meet:

Name: David Clynes

Classification: Engineering

What was your first job? Caddie at Interlachen

Who was your first role model and why? My cousin, David. He is 10 years my senior and when I was little he was good at making rockets and hydrogen…Boom! He lived and became a very successful engineer.
Why did you want to join Rotary? Community—local and international. With my dad [Bill Clynes] so active in the Rotary Scholar program, holiday meals at our home were often like a little piece of the UN. As a result, I have a second set of family, good friendships with exceptional people from all over the world.

What do you like best about being part of the Rotary Club of Edina?
Community—these past couple months have been a good example. Away on an extended trip to California helping family, attending the local Rotary here has been a godsend. I was instantly welcomed into their community and several members have been a big help. People who are already becoming friends. Being part of Rotary’s worldwide impact of changing and improving lives.

What one piece of advice do you offer other business leaders? Yes, skills and business success is important. But life success really centers around our relationships, other people and our community. Together we can do great things…and have fun doing it.
