The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Tony Barranco of Ryan Companies as the program speaker at its meeting Thursday, Sept. 18. Barranco is the vice president of development for office and mixed use for Ryan Companies.

In this role, Barranco is the executive in charge of the $400-million Downtown East project on the former Star Tribune five blocks, next to the Vikings Stadium. This Downtown East project includes 1,000,000 square feet of office space in two 18-story office towers for Wells Fargo, 204 apartment units fronting a 2.5 block urban park (“The Yard”) and a six-level, 1,600-stall parking ramp. Besides the Downtown East project, he is the lead development executive for two mixed-use projects that include a Whole Foods grocery store and high end apartments: The 222 Hennepin project at the northwest corner of Hennepin and Washington in downtown Minneapolis. As well as The Vintage project just north of O’Gara’s Bar on Snelling Avenue in St. Paul. He leads project teams through all aspects of the development process including site selection and acquisition, constraint analysis, and due diligence, municipal approvals, design and construction coordination, and lease or sale negotiation. As an urban specialist, Barranco understands current market trends and uses that knowledge to implement win-win solutions for clients and project stakeholders, even on some of the most challenging development sites.

He is a true visionary and developer entrepreneur. Before joining Ryan Companies, Barranco launched the Crazy Carrot juice bar concept in Minneapolis, which he ultimately sold to Jamba Juice. He also developed an acclaimed apartment/retail project in downtown Minneapolis.

Barranco hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
