Join us Thursday, July 24, for program speaker Ward Brehm at the Rotary Club of Edina meeting. Brehm is founder of The Brehm Group, which works with family investment offices on life insurance and estate planning. He is a nationally recognized leader in African humanitarian efforts, and a nationally known public speaker and commentator on relief development in Africa.

July 24 is also prospective member day at the meeting. All Edina Rotarians are encouraged to bring along someone who is interested in Rotary. Lunch is free that day for anyone interested in learning more about our Club. Come and see what Rotary is all about!

And new member Don Hutchison will be inducted at the meeting. Don joined the Club in April 2014.

The meeting starts at 12:15 p.m. at the Edina Country Club. All are welcome. 

 

The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Ward Brehm as the program speaker at the meeting Thursday, July 24.

Brehm is the founder of The Brehm Group and has been working with family investment offices across the country creating and implementing sophisticated applications of investment grade life insurance in the estate planning area since 1973.

He is a nationally recognized leader in African humanitarian efforts and a nationally known public speaker and commentator on relief and development in Africa. Brehm was appointed chairman of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) in 2004 by President George W. Bush, and he served in that role until the expiration of his term in 2008. In 2010, Brehm was re-appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as a member of the USADF.  

Brehm brought his message as an advocate for the poor in Africa to the 2008 National Prayer Breakfast, where he gave the keynote address before an audience including the US President, First Lady, foreign heads of sate, most members of Congress, and the Washington diplomatic community. Brehm was the first person from the business community to ever be asked by Congress to address this annual gathering in Washington, D.C.

In 2008, Brehm was awarded the Presidential Citizenship Medal, the country's second-highest civilian honor, for his work in Africa at an Oval Office ceremony. He is also the author of two books on his experiences in Africa, Life Through a Different Lens and White Man Walking.

He and his wife, Kris are lifelong residents of Minnesota and currently live in Orono. They have three adult children, Andy, Michael and Sarah.
