Several organizations and groups across the country are reading White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism. The New York Times best-selling book explores the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality. Read More for additional details.
Showing a commitment to learning more about race and equity, several Rotary clubs in Minnesota, including those in Excelsior and St. James, have offered a “book club” of sorts to their members to read the book and talk about it as a small group. The Rotary Club of Edina’s Race & Equity Committee is now working to plan such an activity for members of the Rotary Club of Edina. In February, participating Rotarians will begin meeting electronically every-other week to discuss a few chapters of the book. It is exciting to announce 24 members of our club have ordered or own a copy of the book and may be participating in the discussion. We are looking forward to sharing fellowship with Rotary clubs outside the metro area and learning about the challenges they encounter.
