The speakers at the Nov. 8 Rotary Club of Edina meeting were Lori Syverson, Executive Director of the Edina Chamber Commerce, and our own Tim Murphy, past Edina Rotary President and Rotary District 5950 Governor. Syverson and Murphy are members of the Edina Economic Development Committee. They shared the vision of what Edina might look like moving forward.
Sam Thompson, marketing director for Camp Enterprise, gave a recap of the successful event held earlier this month.
We celebrated longtime Rotarian Bill Clynes' birthday with a song and a cake provided by Bill's son (and fellow Rotarian) David Clynes. Happy birthday, Bill!

The meeting was brought to attention by a video of Dan Hennen’s Rotary inspiration video. We then where warmly greeted by our dedicated President John Flynn after a bountiful Big Buffet. John showed gratitude to our greeters—Sylvester Thomas, Thom Winninger and Marty Kupper. Our meeting hosts were Jody Kern and Sutton McGraw and our meeting photographer was "Smile Pretty" Rick Carlson. Joe Arends gave a thoughtful invocation and nailed the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and Four-Way Test. Mike Eckert introduced numerous guest and visiting Rotarians.
Our current Treasurer Sam Thompson followed up on a very successful Camp Enterprise with a few very inspirational testimonials from student participants. Great job Sam and your team for another successful year, including 108 participants and many club member volunteers. I am sure Stefan Smith, our 2019 Camp E Chair, is putting together his team now. If you would like to volunteer, it is a great experience.

Wade Thommen announced the pre-Thanksgiving Happy Hour at The Mezz on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Come anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
We wished and sang a happy birthday to a 91-year-old Bill Clynes. The cake was a nice touch.
John Flynn presented a Club-sponsored International Service trip with St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The group will travel to Guatemala and do a service project in Coban, Guatemala. If you would like to participate, check in with Josh Sprague.
Our speakers where introduced by longtime Rotarian Mary Younggren. Mary introduced Lori Syverson, Executive Director of the Edina Chamber Commerce, and Tim Murphy as part of the Edina Economic Development Committee. They shared the work they have done on what Edina looks like moving forward. The purpose of the Committee is to present ideas to the Edina City Council on how to improve the economic vitality of Edina. They discussed how Edina is becoming a "Well-Being Destination" for an aging state. They are working on proposals of transportation in different areas of Edina. They also are woking on ideas of not only how if people come to Edina for health care, they can they keep them in Edina to shop, eat and enjoy all the Edina has to offer. They also discussed the growth in health care businesses in Edina in traditional and holistic medicine. Sandy Schley thanked the speakers and the meeting was drawn to a close.
