President Josh Sprague kicked off the first prospective member meeting of the year with introducing everyone to a Rotary video showcasing the benefits of Rotary and our service projects.
Bill McReavy gave the invocation, pledge of allegiance and four-way test. We were lucky that he was able to fill-in the roll as another Rotary member had to make a late change – not to name names but he loves music!
Guest introductions were led by President Sprague through a lightning round. Everyone enjoyed hearing about individuals favorite winter activities.
Steve Buettner introduced two very talented Edina Public School students.
President-Elect Sam Thompson highlighted a few upcoming events during Rotary’s Leadership Development Week starting March 9th. The Rotary Foundation – A Fireside Chat with RI Director Stephanie A. Urchick and a Sip & Serve Event. A Rotary Leadership Speaker Event with special guest International Speaker Michael Angelo Caruso. Lastly, a Leadership Breakfast with Stephanie A. Urchick. President Sprague share a Rotary International video shared by Bill Gates on how Rotary is making a difference with service, specifically regarding polio eradication. He also shared his fund match program with Rotary and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Scott Blake shared the upcoming event hosted by the Edina Interact Club Skate-to-End Polio. The Interact annual fund drive for polio, Skate to End Polio is Friday, February 14th 8:30 to 10 p.m.at Braemar Outdoor Arena.at the Braemar ice arena. Check our group’s website for more information.
Susan Stiles representing the Edina Foundation gave two Honorary Paul Harris Fellowship Awards to key Edina Rotary Sponsors – Justin LaMettry of LaMettry’s Collision and Eric Hendrickson of Tradition Companies.
As a fellow Edina high school sports star, Skip Thomas introduced the speaker of the day – Edina Women’s Hockey Varsity Head Coach Sami Reber. Skip detailed all of Coach Reber’s accolades as an Edina hockey player, college and prior coaching background, and now coaching history with Edina. Skip is pictured here with Rev. Dr. Arthur Rouner.
Coach Reber delighted the crowd with further discussion of her hockey background and the future of the Edina Women’s Hockey Program. Coach Reber discussed teaching her hockey players the EHS Team Perspective of Team First, Staying in the present, Buying in to the team, and above all – having fun!
Membership Chair, Royce Pavelka, thanked Coach Reber for being such a key attribute to the Edina community and excellent influence for her players.
President Sprague closed the meeting and thanked all of the guests of the day.
