Lily Hins provides a perfect example of the impact of both Fraser programs and philanthropy. At 2 years old, Lily had mysteriously quit talking, stopped singing, ceased making eye contact, and had no peer interaction. All her expressions were virtually gone.

Lily's pediatrician referred her to Fraser, where she was diagnosed as severely autistic, developmentally delayed. At 3 years old, Lily began receiving services at Fraser in Eagan, including the Day Treatment Program, speech and occupational therapy. Additionally, while Lily receives this support, her family meets regularly with a Fraser therapist to help manage the challenges associated with autism in their daily lives.

Since starting with Fraser in 2015, Lily has gone from completely non-verbal, to be able to name the planets, say the alphabet, count to 100 forwards and backwards, write and spell correctly. Megan Hins, Lily's mothers states, "Miss Lily has a long road ahead...but the more we are talking about this and the more we are supporting organizations like Fraser, the more windows are turning into doorways."

Fraser is Minnesota's premier nonprofit serving people with developmental disabilities, mental health disorders, and over 60 types of other special needs. Louise Whitbeck Fraser, a young widow and mother, founded Fraser in 1935 as a home school for children with disabilities. She began the school in response to requests from parents who were impressed by the success she had teaching her own daughter who also had a severe disability. Thus began Fraser School, the first of its kind in Minnesota.
