Clements is the founder of the National Rugby Football League and has spent most of his professional career as an entrepreneur in the legal profession. He founded Civil Action Group (“CAG”), the largest and most respected legal support services company in the world. CAG became the industry leader in handling documents nationwide with 176 offices throughout the United States.Clements was an active rugby player for 15 years, played in five U.S. Championships, and toured in the U.K. His professional rugby initiative began after traveling to England and being presented with the opportunity to purchase the oldest rugby team in England, the Rugby Lions. Clements decided against the deal seeing instead huge relevance and growth potential for rugby in the U.S.
Given the financial wealth, vast athletic talent pool, excess of professional sports venues, and substantial fan base that loves contact sport in the U.S., his focus turned toward home and launching a new professional major league sport. The National Rugby Football League was born. Clements is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and earned his J.D. at the Butler School of Law.
