Periodically we feature a newer member of the Rotary Club of Edina on our website and in our newsletter. The Rotary Club of Edina welcomed Fred Sylvester as a member in August 2017. Fred's sponsor to the club was Tim Murphy.

Name: Fred Sylvester

Classification: Commercial Banking

What was your first job? Stock boy at a Super Valu grocery store in Duluth, Minnesota

Who was your first role model and why? My brother, Tom. He was 11 years older, always fun to be around and willing to take the time to teach me things. (This also meant I had fantastic parents.)

Why did you want to join Rotary? While in Duluth, Jim Cesar, a Rotarian, encouraged me to attend a meeting and the fellowship, community involvement and world projects appealed to me.

What do you like best about being part of the Rotary Club of Edina? I’ve been involved in three other Rotary clubs (Duluth, St Cloud and Minneapolis), and Edina stands out for its kindness and welcoming nature.

What one piece of advice do you offer other business leaders? Relationships are key to being successful in business and life. “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” — Dale Carnegie

We are lucky to have you as part of our club, Fred!
