Rotary Community Core@Lake Street was recently chosen as a Here Is Mpls honoree for civic engagement.
Rotary Community Core@Lake Street is a hyper-local project that emerged to revitalize the businesses damaged during the uprising that followed the murder of George Floyd. Eight Rotary Clubs, including the Rotary Club of Edina and the Rotary Club of Edina-Morningside, support businesses along Lake Street. Long-term, the goal is to build community trust and business growth in the neighborhood.
Here is MPLS, part of the Minneapolis Foundation, lifts up the stories of individuals, projects and organizations that are bringing innovative solutions and a community-rooted approach to strengthen Minneapolis. Here is MPLS chose 13 honorees through a public nomination process and with guidance from an advocacy council of 16 cross-section leaders whose lived experience and professional expertise reflect the diverse concerns and aspirations of the community. Awards were presented in the categories of Civic Engagement, Housing, Opportunity Equity and Public Safety.
Here is MPLS awarded Rotary Community Core@Lake Street a prize of $5,000. The group will use the money to help business owners bring more customers to Lake Street.
“There were more than 180 submissions for these awards and the Rotary Club of Edina was part of making this project a success for the greater metro area,” said Rotary Club of Edina President Shelly Loberg.
