Topic: "Adversity: Building the Scaffolding of Our Souls" For more than 30 years, Carol Malnati had a career innovating lifesaving medical devices that help hearts to beat correctly. In other words, Carol spent her career ‘fixing broken hearts’. She started her career at Medtronic creating what would become the company’s first implantable defibrillator, a small device that regulates deadly-fast heart rhythms. Carol is a transformational leader who helped take the defibrillator business from a start-up to its multi-billion-dollar cornerstone business of Medtronic’s global portfolio.
The Rotary Club of Edina Spring Fireside Chat schedule will begin Thursday, May 11. Club member hosted these small and casual social gatherings give experienced and freshman Rotarians the opportunity to get to know each other and learn about Rotary. Usually held in the host member's home as a come and go timed gathering, it's a nice way to conversationally and personally connect with your fellow Rotary friends. You're invited to attend all the scheduled chats or pick one that works best with your schedule. To allow the host to prepare, please register for each gathering you plan to attend. The caterers this year will be Old Southern Smokehouse Catering who will be providing a fantastic menu including beverages, beer and wine. Games, facepainting and more will be available.
There is no additional cost to members (this event is included with quarterly meeting fees). Attending senior active, family members and guests cost $20 per person. Children 6 to 16 are $12 per child. Children 5 and under are free. Guest fees will be charged to the member's July 2023 invoice.

SIX VOLUNTEERS NEEDED -- REGISTER HERE -- JCS operates two safe residence homes for formerly trafficked women. This is a joint service project with the Edina Federated Women's Club. Volunteers will begin work at 9:00 am to seed and fertilize the yard, plant flowers, shrubs, and trees at one of the homes located at 5017 Washburn Ave N, Minneapolis 55430 (15 minute drive North 100 from Edina City Hall). 8-10 Rotary members are needed.

The Rotary Club of Edina recently presented Diane Osborne with its 2023 Chrysanne Manoles Women In Leadership Award.
Osborne is the Nurse Manager of the Intensive Care Unit at Fairview Southdale Hospital. When she was hired in 2016, there was no formal program in place to honor organ donors or their families. In her first year, the Fairview Southdale ICU cared for two organ donors who went on to save three lives. By 2018, they had five donors who saved 12 lives. Many more details follow in "Read More"
Twenty-six students are set to graduate from Edina High School as Rotary Global Scholars.
The Rotary Global Scholars program, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Edina and the Edina Education Fund, was designed to help students develop global competency skills, prepare for a global career, develop understanding of world issues and learn to apply academic content to solve social and global issues.
The Rotary Club of Edina recently presented three scholarships to deserving students at Edina High School.
The Rotary Club of Edina presents $1,500 scholarships to graduating Edina seniors who exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and have participated in Rotary programs such as Camp Enterprise, Camp RYLA, fall ethics seminar, Vocational Ethics Day, youth exchange, Edina Rotary Global Scholars or the Interact Club of Edina. This year’s scholarships were presented to Abid Hassan (pictured) and Elodie Jones. The Rotary Club of Edina also provides a $1,000 renewable scholarship to a graduating senior who is completing the Edina Rotary Global Scholars program. Rowan Ungerman (pictured) received that scholarship.

This year there is a challenge between The Rotary Club of Edina and Edina Morningside Rotary Club to see which club will get the highest percentage of members to donate $25 or more to The Rotary Foundation.
