Four volunteers are needed to clean and winterize the “Grow and Give” gardens Oct. 24 at The Sheridan Story. VOLUNTEER HERE.

The gardens were built earlier this year with funds from the Rotary Clubs of Edina, Brooklyn Park, Minneapolis and Roseville and Rotary International District 5950.Volunteers are need to clear out all of the dead plant material, remove weeds from mulched areas between beds, lay cardboard in areas to help prevent grass/weeds next season and till the beds and add 1-3 inches of compost in each bed. Work will begin at 10 a.m. and is expected to take a few hours. Volunteers should wear close-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty.

The Sheridan Story identified an approximately 4,000-square-foot plot of land at its facility in Roseville to convert into a produce garden to expand its fresh produce program. The majority of this property is owned by Ramsey County. The small portion owned by The Sheridan Story’s landlord, CSM, was approved for use. The Grow and Give gardens were built and planted in May. Because of COVID-19, Rotarians were not able to help with the project.

To date, the Grow and Give initiative has collected 4,308.8 pounds of produce which has been packed into 705 bags and given out at five sites over the past 13 weeks. The Sheridan Story plans to continue harvesting an additional four to six weeks, depending on weather. From the new garden, The Sheridan Story has harvested 695.3 pounds which is roughly 114 of the total 705 bags, or 579 meals.
