Intrepid and Fabulous 50th & France Team (Joe Arends, Katy Campbell and David Clynes) set out last month to find donations for the 2018 Rotary Club of Edina Fundraiser & Gala Silent Auction. Using all their "talents," these volunteers share their strategies and snacks.
Don't forget—the annual Fundraiser & Gala "Rotary's Got Talent!" is Saturday, Sept. 29! Be on the lookout for your invitation in the mail soon. And contact Tom Bach or Jennifer Hendrickson about donating a Silent Auction item!

First was the high-level strategy meeting at El Barrio. After careful consideration of our mission, we deployed individual units block to block. A post-action meet-up may have included a couple of margaritas and one Shirley Temple, along with guacamole and chips.Joe Arends wins Most Organized—prompt, he was first to arrive (no matter that his "commute" from office was a two minute walk). He arrived with the complete Excel printout with all individual items and solicitors on it—plus an extra for anyone who forgot (one or two may have). He also had multiple copies of the excellent Rotary FAQ sheets, which he distributed and we used. He also completed his blocks and probably collected the most business cards. Most excellent.
David Clynes wins Most Creative—his best strategic tip of the day: "Leave 'em with Rotary on the screen." He had the shop personnel dial up the website for referral purposes. Nice! He also wore his Rotary blue "Edina Rotary Club" Nike polo to class up the joint. He also covered a lot of stores. And he paid the bar tab! Good man.
Katy Campbell wins preview of Moderna Kouzina—Aug. 1 is the opening of Edina's newest very-upscale restaurant (in the old Mozza Mia location). But, by luck, the entire staff was there, and they were seconds away from letting 48 guests in for a practice meal service. An alert host observed this Rotarian peering at the posted menu outside, and welcomed her in to the sleek space for a sneak peek. The owner approached, introduced herself with a hearty handshake and said she would be happy to offer an auction item but she was a little busy at the moment. But if this Rotarian emails her she promised she will respond "within seconds"—a bit later on.
Field Tip: Print and bring LOTS of copies of the one-page flyer and FAQ sheet. People want a "leave behind" to have something to know where to contact for followup. (David left the FAQs sheet). Donors also want an address of where to send directly donated items like certificates.
Onward to Galleria!
