The program speakers at the Aug. 30 Rotary Club of Edina meeting were Renee DeLosh and Eric Wilkinson. They talked about the 2019 KPMG Women's PGA Championship that will be held at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska.
Gary Pedersen, a member of the International Service Committee as well as the Edina Rotary Foundation Board of Directors, gave us a brief overview of international service projects our club is involved in, highlighting the water project our club spearheaded in Guatemala.

Listen Up!
This coming year will be another big year for Minnesota on the world stage with one of the top women sports events coming to town. The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is coming to Hazeltine Golf Course on June 18–23, 2019. The event will not only draw 100 of the world's highest-earning female golfers from 18 countries for a chance at the second-highest purse in women’s golf—$3.65 million. The event will be one of the highest viewed sports in women’s PGA history. Over 1,500 volunteers with help serve thousand for on the course spectator.
Introduce Speaker
Program: Deirdre Kvale introduced the two speakers from the KPMA Woman’s PGA.
Renee DeLosh, the Championship Director and Eric Wilkinson Manager of Volunteer Operations of the upcoming Women’s PGA Championship, shared the mic to highlight the unique opportunities of hosting such an amazing event in our own backyard. They told a wonderful story of how the LPGA is advancing its mission make the world a better place not just for women but for you guys also.
KPMG and the women’s PGA are coordinating the theme. This is not just another golfing event but one of "Inspiring Greatness." In was an inspiring presentation that well presented what can come from as golfing event beyond completion. Why compete when you can use the sport to raise the level of leadership as a result?
Opening Comments
Jon Barnett and Rick Carlson are the Video Celebrities who shared the value they receive from being a member our Rotary Club—comaaraderie and the chicken salad.
The front desk was handled by Mark Hegman and Jennifer Garske. Greeting us today were Bridget Hallstrom, Charlie McGoldrick and Paul Mooty. The in-room meeting hosts were Renee Harberts and Sandy Schley. Shooting photos at the meeting was Rick Carlson. The invocation was given by Sue Spalding, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and Rotary Four-Way Test. Wooj Byun announced the guests at the meeting:

There were also several visiting Rotarians from area clubs, and one Rotarian visiting Minnesota from Honduras.
International Service:
Gary Pedersen, a member of the International Service Committee, shared pictures and explanation of the fresh water project we have been investing by drilling a well in Guatemala. Gary highlighted that the $15,000 for our club help leverage enough to cover the $300,000 it took to make the project a reality.
Our project in Colonia Monterrey, Guatemala, represents providing sanitation facilities and clean safe water to a community of 2,250 people. The local school has about 440 primary grade students that attend each morning and 200 secondary students attending each afternoon, many of which experience water borne illnesses as a regular daily part of their lives. One of our project goals is to eliminate water borne illnesses.
