Also on Jan. 26 is the District Mid-Term Assembly. The next club social event is Bowling at the Park Tavern on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. The next prospective member day is Feb. 21 and the speaker will be P.J. Fleck.

The club has a new administrator, Becci Michalski. She started a few days before the meeting. Mark Gasner, the president of Rotoract, announced that the new club is seeking mentors for its members. Come to the next meeting on Jan. 23 at the Mezz in Byerly's to find out more information. Jean Morrison thanked the club for their generous gifts to the residents of Cornerstorne and 66 West as part of the Holiday Giving Program.

The speaker was Lea Olsen, former Gopher basketball player and current game analyst for the Lynx and a sideline reporter for the Timberwolves. Lea founded a program called  "Rethink the Win," focusing on youth sports. She talked about how she gained confidence from sports, and learned to work hard and developed a good work ethic. Our culture is always thinking about the win, not what you get out of the process.

One of the goals of Rethink the Win is to advocate for athletes, their passion for sports and how to win in life. She said corporate America loves women athletes, they know how to compete. She asks pro athletes to tell their stories to young athletes. Out of 8 million kids in sports, only 480,000 will play at a Division I school, and just playing at a Division I school doesn't guarantee a good experience.
Another goal is to change the situation around pressure from parents and recognizing that athletes are vulnerable to overuse injuries and stress. There can be a discussion about stress including what is normal stress and what is too much stress. Rethink the Win provides resources for these conversations.
