Jeff Elasky joined the Edina Police Department as a reserve officer in 1986 and worked his way up through the department ranks for the past two decades. After serving as a reserve officer, he became a community service officer before working as an animal control officer. He served as a patrol officer, working as a school resource officer and DARE officer, as a member of the SWAT team and a hostage negotiator, before being promoted to sergeant and then lieutenant. Elasky was promoted to a Sergeant in 2002 and oversaw patrol, investigations, and community outreach. In 2010, he was promoted to a command position as a Lieutenant and managed the Patrol Division. In 2014, he was selected as the Deputy Chief. He will serve as Interim Chief beginning June 6, 2021 when Chief Dave Nelson retires.
Elasky holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University and is a 2014 graduate of the FBI National Academy. He also attended the Northwestern Staff and Command training program. He is the recipient of the Edina Police Department’s Medal of Honor and Medal of Valor for an officer-involved shooting in 2002.
