Ten years ago, the principal at Sheridan Elementary said her students didn’t have food on the weekends. In response, The Sheridan Story was formed and named for the school. Since then, the organization has provided more than six million meals to Minnesota children in more than 400 different locations, including some in Edina.The Sheridan Story, 2723 Patton Road, Roseville, strives to get food to kids who need it most and in a manner than retains their dignity. Earlier this fall, the organization learned of a barrier to its goal. Its namesake, Sheridan Elementary, is named after Philip Sheridan, who committed terrible acts against Indigenous peoples, playing a significant role in spreading racial stereotypes across the country. To best support children and families, including those from Indigenous backgrounds, The Sheridan Story decided to change its name.
The organization is now called ‘Every Meal,’ which leaders believe better reflects the organization’s mission to ensure children living with food insecurity get every meal they need.
This year, the Rotary Club of Edina honors its weekly meeting speakers with a donation to Every Meal to fight child hunger.
