"Behind the Headlines: Newspapers in the 24/7 News Era" How is the front page of the Star Tribune decided each day? How is startribune.com updated every few minutes? How do reporters, editors and photographers do their jobs and find stories in our communities? Go behind-the-scenes of the Star Tribune and learn how journalists work, the ethical guidelines they follow and how to be a wise news consumer in an era of increasing online disinformation.  Kelly Smith is a news reporter at the Star Tribune. Since 2010, she’s covered west metro city government, Hennepin County government, west metro schools, politics and statewide news, and now covers nonprofits and philanthropy. This will be a highly interactive presentation, so be sure to have your questions ready.
Mark your calendar on Mar. 16 to join The Rotary Club of Edina’s Leadership Series as we welcome Jean Morrison of Morrison and Associates, Inc. to share an interactive learning experience entitled “Let’s Work it Out… Resolving Conflict During Trying Times.”  This session is open to the public so please forward this to your friends, colleagues, and employees so that can benefit as well.   See you there!

Several organizations and groups across the country are reading White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism. The New York Times best-selling book explores the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality. The Rotary Club of Edina is working to assist a Minneapolis business damaged during civil unrest last summer.

Through a partnership with the Lake Street Council, several Rotary Clubs in Rotary International District 5950 are being paired with Minneapolis businesses damaged or destroyed in late May or early June 2020 to provide them assistance.
The Rotary Club of Edina has been paired with Post Plus, a packing, shipping and mailbox rental store at 2740 Minnehaha Ave. Post Plus is located in Minnehaha Center, a mixed-use development with businesses on the street level and housing above. It is very close to the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct headquarters and the post office that was burned during protests that followed the police killing of George Floyd.
Edina Mayor, Rotary Club Challenge Residents to 2,021Acts of Kindness
Mayor Jim Hovland and the Rotary Club of Edina challenge residents to complete 2,021 acts of kindness.
During this difficult time, it is more important than ever to support one another and give back to our community. For this reason, Hovland has launched the 2,021 Acts of Kindness Challenge.
Submit your act of kindness or nominate someone online at betterTogetherEdina.org/KindnessChallenge. The name of each resident who is nominated will go into a monthly drawing to receive a gift card to a local restaurant from the Rotary Club of Edina to thank them for their kindness and support local restaurants.
“Rotary’s motto is ‘Service above Self.’ The Kindness Challenge supports our desire to put others ahead of ourselves while at the same time helping the restaurants in our community,” said Rotary Club of Edina President Sam Thompson about the group’s support of the project.
